Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first woman to hold the vice president and is the highest-ranking female official in U.S history. She is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally she served as a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to her move to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. She was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and then she was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election and became the 2nd African American woman to serve in the Congress, and the first South Asian American American to do so in the United States Senate. As a senator , she supported health reform, federal descheduling for cannabis, a pathway for immigrants who are not legal citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. Harris also backed progressive tax reform. She is best known for her sharp questions to Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
